FAQ
-
What does KIAK mean?
In the old west, cowboys would carry their gear in leather boxes strapped to the side of their horses. These boxes were called kiaks. Since we are carrying all our gear in a Bronco the name seemed fitting.
-
Can I shoot my movie with KIAK?
Yes! While Kiak is built for the needs of interview and documentary productions it will work well on small narrative films. Should you use it to film Star Wars? No. Star Wars fan fic? Sure!
-
Does KIAK come with a human?
KIAK has everything you will need for your shoot. And if you need a grip, DP, or a One Man Band to do it all, we have that too. Regular day rates apply for those roles but we would be happy to arrange that as well.

There are a lot of mountains on your page for a company based in Brooklyn.
Our founder spent most of his career shooting adventure films and documentaries in the Pacific Northwest where mountains are way more common than in Manhattan. When he decided a production support vehicle like KIAK made way more sense in NYC than the PNW he pulled up his tents and headed east. The scenery has changed but KIAK is still gets the job done.
-
Do you really not charge a mileage fee?
Absolutely. We are trying to get rid of all the pain points of hiring a grip truck. The surprise bill at the end was by far our least favorite. When you book KIAK You can take the day rate multiply it by the number of days and that is the amount you will be charged. Always!
-
Why isn't KIAK loaded with every type of gear imaginable?
Most waste on a production comes from having too many options. We eliminate wasted time by only carrying the necessities and nothing more.
